LO4:: Carry out post-production edits to the soundtrack (P6)


i have begun to piece together a sound track that would play along with the voice audio.

I have experimented with, different sounds and compared the uses of a techno bedding track witht he use of a indie backing track.







I have edited down my vocal section to the bear minimum so that i can only hear the essential sound to avoid any room noise intruding on my sound track.
In my first radio trail draft i have mixed together sounds that i got off of a copyright free music site. I choose to use an alarm sound at the begining of the sound track as it is a morning show and many students will be farmiliar with the sound of an alarm clock and i used the sound of a mixing deck to try and make the sound trasitions more continuouse.                                                                 

I have added a sting noise of steel being hammered to help promote the iconography of the steel trade in sheffield and i think it draws the listeners attention to the radio show. i think this could be improved by blending and mixing the music together and possibly exploring the use of different sound tracks for the bedding music.


 I have chaged the indie guitar riff and replaced it witht an up beat techno sound track as i think the beat of the music has more positive connotations and will motivate our listeners and i think this sound track will fit better when i overlay a vocal audio track. i have also made the different audio tracks sound more continuous by ising the croos ade feature.



I have overlayed my vocal audio on to my sound track and experimented with both the guitar riff and the techno beat and decided that it was much better with the techno beat as it had more possitive connotations.

LO:3 legal and ethical (M1)

M1: Identify any issues and resolutions to the legal and ethical issues for sounds to be included in the production process. This should be clear and detailed.

Legal


I must make sure that the sounds i.e. sting and bed music that we must have copyrights for 
the music we use or to avoid
the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act i intend to use copyright free sounds which are covered
under creative commons.


The radio trail must also not break ASA rules i.e how advertising must not be misleading for
for examle we must make sure that we are not misleading on the content that is coming up.


Ethical 

We must make sure that the trail is not offencive or rude as it will be played before the water
shed of 21:00, we must also not be derogatory towards the local are as this is a local radio
station. I should also consider the sounds that I intend to use in my radio trail and listen to 
them before hand and make sure that they are not offencive or painful to listen to.

LO 2 creating a score 2



I have used Ben Burt's techniques in Foley sound to made my own sound scape and backing track to go with this squirrel documentary. I included a suitable backing bed sound to make sure that i would communicate the theme and meaning to the audience in a similar way that Ben Burt dose in Wall-E, in this case i have used a simple and calm bedding sound track to connote this to the audience. We also have included ambient noise of nature i.e. birds and waterfalls to set the scene for the audience. I also included a voice over narrative to communicate what is going on to the audiecne when it is happening.

LO 2: sound report

Wall-E, Ben Burtt sound design

Wall-E has used many different sound effects through out the movie and was brought together by the sound designer Ben Burtt, he would often use built devices or contraptions to make bespoke sounds i.e. he ads the sound of a blaster gun by stretching out a slinky and taping it at one end to make a pew sound. They have also used other gadgets and tools on the Disney cartoons to create sound effects i.e steam train. Ben has used small pieces of sound during wall-e to create connotations of emotions and has manipulated the tone and pitch to communicate what is going on. 

Ben used something called the inertia starter to make the sound of Wall-E's tacks picking up high speeds to create the sound of acceleration. the hardest part of sound design for Ben was making the voices because when making the sound for the voices he had to take in to acount that the audiece will analyse the tone of the characters voice to try na dunderstand their tone and what is goung on in the narrative for example in eves first meeting with wall-e her tone goes from sounding questioning to sounding optemistic and friendly, His use of sound has helped in building character personalaties.

LO:4 P5: Record the different sound elements







I have looked into the use of copyright free sound and looked for sounds that evoke Sheffield and the sub culture of our listeners i.e. the sound of steel being hammerd as sheffield is well knowen for its steel industry. I have also tried to find some indie soundtracks to fit the indie subculture and also found some upbeat techno music to give my trail an up beat and positive theme.


i recorded my script for my audio trail in the sound recording booth to ensure that i got a very high quality and clear recording 






I set up the preamplifier so that my audio would be loud, balanced, clear and audiable when recorded










On the mac i opened up garage band to record my audio to it and make some enitial edits to make sure that there was no unwanted sound encrotching on my track
